Donate bloodBlood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month, which is the perfect time to roll up your sleeve to help those in need. You do not need a special reason to donate blood, and each time you do, you have the chance to save lives. With hundreds of blood donation centers across the state, you will never have to drive more than a couple miles to do your part to help.

Whether you donate blood because you have a friend or family member that is in need, or if you are just doing it to feel good, there is a constant need for blood. Keeping a healthy and reliable blood supply is vital to ensure that there is always enough blood when it is needed. Each time you donate blood, you have the opportunity to save up to three lives.

The blood donation process is very simple and fast. After a mini-physical to check your pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and hemoglobin and you give your health history, you can then donate. The actual donation process only takes around 10 minutes with a very small needle that feels like a quick pinch. Once you are done donating, you get something to drink and a delicious snack to munch on. After the entire process is over, you are able to continue on with your normal activities. It is important to remember to stay hydrated before and after donating blood to make the process feel much easier.

Thomas Ager of Agers Insurance Services in Oakley, California would like to encourage you to donate blood this month to help save the lives of those in need.
