Make New Years Resolution to Review Your Coverage

  • by

This New Year’s, make a resolution to review your insurance policies before renewing in 2014. Here’s a look at things to consider for your vehicle and home policies.

Is your personal contact information correct? Are the numbers and e-mail addresses for your insurance companies up-to-date? Have you had any major life status changes, such as marriage, an inheritance, a major purchase, that could change your insurance needs? Take a moment to review discounts available through your insurers, too, to see if you qualify.

Have you paid off the vehicle, and if so, do you still need the same level of coverage? Have the people who use the vehicle changed? If any drivers no longer use your car, you may want remove them from the policy.

Has the financial value of the home changed in the past year? Upgrades and renovations can call for a review of the insured value. If you own more than one property, you may want to check to see if you have any duplication of coverage in your homeowner and property insurance policies. You may save some money on premiums if you eliminate overlapping coverage.
