Homeowners Halloween Safety Guide

  • by

Anytime you have visitors to your home there is a potential for liability issues. This is true for holidays like Halloween. If you want to minimize your exposure there are some safety tips you should observe. Here is a brief guide to making sure guests and trick-or-treaters have a safe Halloween when visiting your home.

Turn the porch light on. Having an exterior light on not only helps visibility but it also lets neighbors know that you are welcoming trick-or-treaters.

Don’t use an open flame in your Jack-o-lantern. It is much safer to use a battery powered light or even a glow stick to illuminate your carved pumpkin.

Remove anything that may be an obstacle on your sidewalk and porch. It is getting darker earlier so make sure planters and other obstacles aren’t an impediment to those who are visiting.

Secure your pets. You don’t want to take the chance of your pet interacting with guests or trick-or-treaters.

Only give out pre-packaged candy. Don’t give out home-made treats that could subject you to liability issues. Only give away factory packaged goodies.
